Instead of flowers or the like.
Thank you!
A craftsman genius, so fine, In neurosurgery, his skill divine,’ I thought, trusting my fate To a man of such medical state.
With the bone surgeon by his side, They mended the broken, where pain did reside. Hoping for relief, under his knife I went, Twice the tool wielded, my back’s torment.
Dark pains followed, a double ordeal, Twice the anesthesia, a surreal wheel. At 86 (almost), one may ask, Is this still a joyous task?
After the second, back in the realm, Of mournful songs, like a heavy helm. I wished for policemen to bring relief, Suing the clinic, ending my grief.
It became unbearable, the clinic’s embrace, Close to underworlds, an ominous space. Days sent nightmares, a possessive spree, Leading me to places, trying to entice me.
Exhausted, I escaped the deep swamp, Where beautiful words tried to tempt and romp. Mechanics fine have naught to do, Let’s leave it be, the experience through.
Negligent I remained, the follow-up lost, Amidst thoughts multitudinous and tossed. With the husband, patient and frail, (2 strokes, thigh fracture), enough of the tale.
Follow-up skipped through my own fault, A careless act, not to be exalted. Save what can be saved, a question so vast, Still, after so long, where do I cast?
If it were handled over the phone, Almost delightful, a method of our own. In the personal waters, I find my plea, Forgive me, Professor, my earnest decree.
Not a single rhyme in this land so wide, For a long time, my creativity did hide. It should reach you sooner, this heartfelt song, Your success unparalleled, forever strong!
Your ‘unfinished’ masterpiece, a gift so grand, Bringing back pain-free days, as if on demand! I wonder, though, is there something I lack, Requiring attention, a plan off track?
Special care in the times ahead, A thought lingering in my head. Brigitte, worry not, let it go, The trouble is gone, a relief to show!
My letter to the surgeons, no flowers in hand, A poetic tribute, a rhyme to withstand.
Thank You to Prof. Dr. Dr. Feigl
It is time to express my heartfelt gratitude once again for all the efforts and the exceptionally good treatment and guidance provided by Prof. Dr. Dr. Feigl.
Since 2014, I have been a patient of Professor Feigl. Despite my various diagnoses (including synovial cyst, facet joint osteoarthritis, spondylolisthesis), Prof. Dr. Dr. Feigl has consistently helped me ‘get back on my feet’ with different treatment approaches over the past years.
Professor Dr. Dr. Feigl always instills confidence in me because his goal is to enhance or restore the quality of life for the patient. He is not only an outstanding neurosurgeon but has also remained ‘a human being,’ which makes him trustworthy and likable.
Last but not least, a big thank you to the entire staff in neurosurgery!
Persistent, increasing pain in the lumbar region with pronounced radiation into the legs made extended walking and standing impossible. Clinical examinations (MRI and CT) revealed spondylolisthesis in the L4/5 vertebrae with an accompanying spinal canal stenosis. After conservative treatment measures yielded no success, I opted for a minimally invasive microsurgical intervention. The surgery performed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Günther Feigl at the Bamberg Hospital, involving decompression of the spinal canal and stabilization of the spine with screws and rods, along with the insertion of a cage, brought about a noticeable improvement. The preoperative pain is gone, and extended walking is largely possible again. Any remaining load-dependent mobility challenges are progressively reduced through physiotherapeutic treatments.

In August, our mother had to undergo a cerebral shunt operation, and three months later, she had another spine surgery due to spinal canal stenosis. Both successful procedures were performed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Günther Feigl. We are immensely grateful to him and his team for the competent and understanding care and support provided before, during, and even after this time. Our mother felt in the best hands at all times. We are very thankful that access was assured, and there was a reliable response to questions and requests, whether by phone, email, or in personal conversations. Especially in these challenging situations, the friendly, factual, and reassuring manner of Prof. Feigl and his secretary was crucial and helpful for us.
Since March, I have been experiencing significant pain in my spine during various movements, radiating down my right leg and into the foot. Conservative preventive measures undertaken did not bring any relief from the pain. An MRI in June revealed a resulting severe spinal canal stenosis. After the initial consultation and examination by Prof. Dr. Dr. Feigl at the Bamberg Hospital Neurosurgery, surgery was the only viable option. This was successfully performed by Prof. Dr. Dr. Feigl in a minimally invasive technique in November. My healing process has been normal until today. I underwent outpatient rehabilitation at SALUDIS. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prof. Dr. Dr. Feigl for relieving me of the pain, and I can highly recommend him and his surgical approach.
Over an extended period, the severe pain in my legs had escalated to an unbearable level. Upon waking up, I could barely move. It was only possible to walk with diminishing pain later in the morning. Even the strongest painkillers were ineffective. Neither my general practitioner nor the orthopedist could help me. I had a CT scan done at the radiology department in Bamberg. Diagnosis: Spinal canal stenosis in the L4/5 region. Recommendation: Surgery, otherwise, I would soon be in a wheelchair. Not good prospects. As I (89 years old) had already undergone a spine surgery (screwing of L1 with 3, kyphoplasty of L2) 10 months earlier and just five months ago a successful heart surgery (aortic valve replacement), I decided to have the operation at the Neurosurgery Clinic in Bamberg. I didn’t really have a choice.
After careful preparation (MRI was initially not possible due to the aortic valve), I underwent surgery in May. The result: The pain was not gone, but significantly reduced. Eight days later, I could leave the clinic and resume my life as a self-sufficient single. I still had to take strong pain medication, though.
After six weeks, I went to the Schön-Klinik in Bad Staffelstein for two weeks of rehabilitation. During this time, the pain almost completely disappeared, allowing a gradual reduction of medication. For several weeks now, I have not taken any pain medication at all. What remains? Temporary mild back pain, more or less strong tingling in the right leg, still beyond the pain threshold, so I hopefully continue without pain medication. And, of course: a feeling of gratitude towards the doctors and the nursing team who have enabled me to lead a normal life again.
After experiencing severe back pain with paralysis symptoms in my right leg, a radiological examination was arranged following medical treatment. Treatment of the spinal canal was deemed necessary. After a remote conversation, during which my cries for help were received in a very friendly manner, an appointment with Prof. Dr. Dr. Feigl was scheduled.
Following the examination, a conversation conducted in a very friendly tone, and several specialist examinations, surgery was performed. Afterward, I noticed a significant improvement in my symptoms. Due to the leakage of fluid from the wound, a second operation had to be carried out.
During my stay, I felt exceptionally well cared for. The medical team visited me several times a day, listening to my concerns. My expressed wishes were fulfilled whenever possible.
I would like to express my gratitude once again to Prof. Dr. Dr. Feigl and his team, his secretary, and the caregivers on the private ward. Much of my quality of life has been restored.
